THE SAVAGE DAYS OF ORION MARX
Middle Grade Adventure
Work in Progress
Orion Marx slept soundly, one foot hanging over the edge of his twin bed, in his family’s corner apartment perched beside the Hudson river. Unlike his parents, (and the rest of the city) who found the raging thunderstorm made it impossible for them to sleep.
Lightning pulsed every other second behind the swollen clouds. Thunder rattled the walls. Rain and hail pelted the windows. The wind shredded store awnings and pried the newly born leaf buds from their branches.
It was the kind of storm that forced dogs shaking and whining into their owner’s laps, and kids hopping into bed with their parents. An especially loud crack of thunder even managed to wake Orion long enough to stuff a pillow over his head to drown out the noise.
In other words, it was a typical late night east coast thunderstorm.
Except, it wasn’t.
